Meet the Team

My name is Aliaja and I am a licensed professional midwife and I am the owner of Bearth Side Midwifery. I remember being so young and watching an impactful film about how revolutionary midwifery is, and how when you allow the birth process to unfold as it is intended to unfold with minimal interventions, it reduces the risk of complications, birth trauma, and the cesarean section rate.

This information was so different than what I’ve heard about childbearing and giving birth in the past. I’ve heard so many horrific stories and this new insight that I was receiving helped me realize that the narrative can and must be changed. The narrative can be changed about the care we receive, birth, where we birth our babies, what position we birth our babies in, and what our bodies do when we allow them to do what they’re intended to!

I felt a calling to midwifery and enrolled in the Florida School of traditional midwifery(a MEAC accredited midwifery school) at eighteen years old, a year after having my firstborn son. My birth was also confirmation that I needed to become a midwife.

Once I became a midwife I mostly practiced in busy birthing centers serving home-birth and birthing center patients in St. Petersburg (The Birthing Center of St. Pete) and Sarasota (Birthways Family Birthing Center).

I am looking forward to serving my community in the capacity of a home birth midwife!

Hola! My name is Laura Restrepo I am a licensed midwife that has a strong belief that midwives possess the ability to transform the pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum experience for people from all walks of life.

I graduated from The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery completing the MEAC accredited direct-entry midwifery program. As a student midwife I trained all over Florida - Hollywood, Vero Beach, Sarasota, and St.Pete with various birth center practices and midwives that possess a range of skills.

As an undergrad from NYC looking into midwifery schools, I learned my great-grandmother was a midwife in Colombia. This ancestral knowledge validated my calling.

I have supported families as a student midwife, birth assistant, doula, and Spanish speaking translator and now as a midwife. My experience in birth work is a testament to my dedication to serving the community, particularly marginalized populations. My mission is to continue as a healthcare professional who is equally committed to social equity and quality care. I am grateful to be part of your sacred experience and I come with skilled hands and a heart full of love.

I am currently attending nursing school and serving Bearth Side patients in the capacity of a skilled birth Assistant and childbirth educator.

Desjone Reeves BA

Hello, I am Desjoné, a birth worker who has journeyed in the birth world as a birth assistant, doula, and now first time-mother.

Along my journey, I’ve grown to inner stand that childbirth is not only beautiful but an intimate moment where one connects with Mother Earth to bring forth life in all of many ways.

As a birth worker my mission is to instill evidence-based knowledge and awareness by educating, supporting, and empowering mothers and their families to be unimaginable in all realms of childbearing.

Within a nonjudgmental birthing space I over-stand that birthing is nowhere near easy and by far, will be the hardest challenge a woman will face.

With my experience as a birth assistant, doula and now NICU mom, I solely intend to help connect the body mentally, physically, & emotionally so that the birthing experience is positive, productive and fulfilling to the hearts desires.
